6 Southampton roasts (almost) as good as Mum’s
Being back at university is great; you get to catch up with friends and have the freedom to do basically whatever you want. However, it’s also normal to miss home and home-cooked food… especially when you've fully recovered from Christmas. What better way to satisfy your cravings for home comforts than to find the best roast dinners in town? Let’s be honest, we’re students, therefore unlikely to cook a roast dinner for ourselves. So, today, I’m sharing my pick of the top roast dinners in Southampton.
Disclaimer: These are good but not as good as your Mum’s.
The Cowherds is incredibly picturesque (you can get those Instagram shots while enjoying a wonderful meal!) and let’s be honest, is there a better way to end the week than enjoying good food in a calming setting? The prices range between £11.25 to £13.75 for the usual roast dinner options. With a fabulous location right on Southampton Common, you can’t get much better than this!
The Duke of Wellington
Located on Bugle Street, The Duke Of Wellington pub offers everything from wedding receptions to a place to go for a couple of drinks of an evening with friends. But we’ll cut to the chase… it also has one of the best Sunday roast dinners. From only £10.90 per person, you’re having a fabulous meal and not breaking the bank.
Ceno have a large variety of meal options and while they are slightly more expensive, it’s definitely worth it. They offer a two-course Sunday dinner for £18. Sure, you could find cheaper, but the reviews are phenomenal and sometimes, you just want to branch out a little bit, step away from the student pasta meals and enjoy some great food.
The Forest Home
The Forest Home bar and restaurant is like a sanctuary when you’re missing your home comforts, as it’s super cosy inside with a wood burning stove and comfortable seating area. The roast dinners start from £9.95, which is really affordable for the quality of food.
Simons At Oxfords
Known for its fantastic atmosphere, Simons At Oxfords is a great place to enjoy good food with friends. The majority of the roast dinner options are £13.95 which again, isn’t going to break the bank too much and there’s such a variety in the menu that there’s definitely something for everyone. It was even voted the number one roast in Southampton
The Haywain Stonehouse
Cheapest, last, but certainly not least, The Haywain Stonehouse has a range of carvery options priced at only £8.99. This is definitely the most student-friendly price and for great quality food, you really can’t complain. It’s super convenient when you’re really craving good food but don’t want to break the bank.
