7 uplifting Instagram accounts that will motivate and inspire you

Good vibes only

Many of us have a complicated relationship with social media, but that shouldn’t necessarily stop you from using it.

If you find that you’re sick of comparing yourself to everyone else around you, follow some new accounts for a more positive perspective.

Here are seven of my favourites: perfect for students looking for a little inspiration or motivation.

1) @jameelajamilofficial

jameela jamil

You may know her as Tahani from The Good Place, but in real life, Jameela Jamil is nothing like her character and she’s actually an awesome motivational speaker.

Campaigning about everything from dangerous diets to equality, there’s barely an issue on the diversity spectrum that this actress hasn’t tackled.

2) @rupikaur_

Rupi Kaur

If you love your poetry mixed with more than a little “girl power”, Rupi Kaur’s Instagram, where she shares her work regularly alongside her achievements, is for you.

The author of published works such as Milk and Honey deals with feminism, race, and love in a way that will truly give you some food for thought.

She’s a testament to the fact that beautiful things can come from bad times; which should inspire creativity in us all.

3) @humansofny

Humans of New York

At university, you meet all kinds of people from all kinds of backgrounds.

In a similar way, Humans of New York captures the breathtaking breadth and depth of humanity and the emotions we all feel.

Above all else, this account is real. There’s no sense of show for the cameras, everything you see and read is raw, which is a reflection of its creator, Brandon Stanton’s, ability to bring his subjects’ stories to life.

4) @mindofhabit

mind of habit

Feeling unproductive or lacking in motivation? This Instagram is ideal, especially for students struggling around exam time.

Learn new habits, read quotes and develop a fresh mindset on your approach to success.

5) @thegoodquote

the good quote

This account advocates for wellness, self-care and self-development.

From the funny to the downright classic, it posts everything it says it will - some seriously good quotes! They’ll make you think, they’ll make you reflect… and who knows? Perhaps they’ll make you act.

6) @plasticfreedom_

plastic free paper tape

There’s no denying it - we are in the midst of a climate emergency.

While most of us would find it impossible to go completely plastic free, it’s surprising how many small changes we can all actually make.

This account highlights some easy switches you can make, and even has a website attached so that the alternatives are easy to find.

7) @happsters

So many of us struggle with mental health issues or even just daily anxieties, so it’s important to take some time for mindfulness from time to time.

If you’re looking to improve your overall happiness, this is a real feel-good account when you’re feeling low. Check out everything from relatable memes to super-cute content, as well as advice for practising self-care.

Happy scrolling!
