How to stay warm this winter

Christmas is lovely and everything, but if you’re anything at all like me, you’re already counting down the weeks until the summer. It’s weird, really – all of my favourite holidays from Halloween right through to my birthday take place over winter, and yet it’s the one season I think is ‘cute’ for all of about five minutes, and then get bored. Of course, there are countless great things about this time of year, but the cold weather can become quite the distraction if you don’t want to quite literally be frozen. Because let’s face it, the reality of that isn’t always Disney-fied!

So, just how do you keep warm as a lowly student on a budget? Fortunately, one thing you don’t have to worry about at Liberty Living as part of your all-inclusive rent is heating bills. Now, this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t still use your head (um, why is your window wide open and your thermostat on high? Does that make sense to you?), but at least you’ve got the option so you’re not getting frostbite or anything!

When it comes to winter fashion, it can often feel a little… frumpy. However, that’s not to say there aren’t loads of great options out there. When money is an issue (as it often is this time of year!), you’re probably best waiting for Santa to sort you out – or for the Boxing Day sales, at the very least. Failing that, you can do some super-savvy layering to make the best out of whatever you already have.

Now, as for my silver lining, I just love the way that winter allows for as much comfort food as you possibly can manage! My personal go-to is a delicious potato dish, which basically involves layers upon layers of potato, as well as butter, cream, milk, cheese and even bacon, when I feel like it. Yes, it’s indulgent. No, I don’t even want to think about the calorie count. But it’s winter – therefore it doesn’t matter.

It’s the perfect time of year to stay in with your flatmates and really get to know one another, rather than struggling to hear each other in a crowded bar. So, next time you’re in your supermarket of choice, why not pick up some hot chocolates, a few ingredients to make a nice, warm, hearty meal, and get Nexflix on the go for a student lock in: movie style?!
