Liberty Living's wellbeing event: Spreading the word about self-care
Whether you’re studying for exams, or working the 9 to 5 grind, taking the time to make good decisions for your physical and mental health and wellbeing will help you achieve your goals and improve your work-life balance.
But we all know it’s not always easy to make the right choices when we’re caught up in life. So, a little helping hand can make a huge difference!
That’s why we invited local students and 25 bloggers to our recent Wellness Workshop in Spitalfields, London, close to Liberty Plaza.
The event was held on 15th October at Fora and was designed to give our guests an evening of relaxation, helping to promote better wellbeing and ultimately leave them ready to take on even the toughest of days.
Once everyone had enjoyed their welcome glass of Prosecco and a plate of delicious healthy snacks, the group split into three groups to begin the workshops!
First up was the opportunity to stretch ourselves – yoga!
This interactive session focused on deep breathing and stretching, promoting a healthy mind and body. The instructor taught us all about being present in the moment and focusing on each breath while calming aromatherapy oils filled the room.
Our guests did a fantastic job in the workshop and many of them left with a renewed passion for yoga and the effect that it can have on our wellbeing. Even better, we all left feeling a little more limber!
Next up was the nutrition workshop. For many of us, finding the time to prepare nutritious, balanced meals can feel impossible and that quick takeaway is all too tempting. Our qualified nutritionist talked the guests through some of the key ways to create a healthy relationship with food.
Covering everything from keeping a healthy gut, to eating the right foods for optimal brain function, guests were able to see just how important diet is when it comes to taking care of our wellbeing. During the session, everyone was encouraged to try different foods that can form part of a healthy and balanced diet. Our nutritionist also talked about how to include nutritional supplements, including taking antioxidants and vitamins for that extra boost.
The final session was based around mindfulness.
This practice promotes living in the present and remaining aware of our body. Guests learned several techniques to help them centre themselves and reduce stress during difficult times.
One of the most important takeaways from the session, was how vital it is to stop from time to time, breathe deeply, and be fully present in the moment during whatever we’re doing. This can be really important during exams or when you’re up against a deadline.
Holding our event in London was particularly important. Living in the city can be fun and exciting, but it can also be incredibly hectic and, at times, overwhelming.
As we have plenty of student accommodation in London and it is such a busy hub, we figured it made the perfect setting for our workshop! We wanted our students and bloggers leave feeling relaxed and empowered to improve their own wellbeing.
As guests headed back out into the busy London streets, we gave them a goody bag as a parting gift. Hopefully, the mindfulness colouring book, lavender oil and water bottle will all play a part in helping our guests live a healthy and rewarding lifestyle!
