Stuck for New Year plans? Don’t be with these New Year ideas

How is it almost 2016?! Are you going to be in your flat for NYE? If you’re an international student or even just someone who for some reason or another can’t make it home for the holidays, it can be a bit daunting thinking about how to spend the New Year – especially if you’re away from family and friends. Luckily, your room at Liberty Living places you at the heart of the action no matter what city you find yourself in to welcome in 2016. Of course, many of you might also decide you’re sick of your hometown (sound familiar?!) and head back early anyway. Either way, there are plenty of things to do all over the country!

The South

It might be cliché, but being in the capital, London, for New Year’s is bound to be memorable. Whether you choose to see the beautiful fireworks on the Thames by the London Eye, or to have a drink in one of the city’s many amazing venues, you’ll certainly be doing it in style! Remember, a lot of clubs and pubs might be selling tickets and some may be sold out, so it’s worth checking before you head anywhere to avoid being disappointed. Things will probably be even more expensive than they usually already are (yes, London can apparently get even more expensive…). If you don’t drink, or just can’t be bothered, it’s fine – there’s a million (okay, a lot) of things to do regardless. New Year’s Day is also a lot of fun here, too, with an amazing parade (if you can peel yourself out of bed…!).

The Midlands

Fancy something a little different this New Year’s Eve? Why not try heading to Uprawr in Birmingham, the country’s leading alternative night out? Think all the rock and emo songs you love from about ten years ago, mixed in with the a decent helping of metal, as well as tons of party, pop and hip hop tracks thrown in for good measure. I’m really not doing it justice with that summary! They’re doing a red carpet ball and going all out with a confetti cannon, balloon drop and even some fireworks! This one looks sure to sell out, but it’s worth it once you’re in – drinks are cheaper than cheap and there’s nothing pretentious in the slightest. Guaranteed – one of the best nights out around! If it’s not up your street, don’t panic: there are tons of other places you can go.

The North

The North has the advantage of having literally the club world as its oyster, and a whole lot cheaper than the capital! Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester and Newcastle are all ideal destinations for the perfect New Year celebrations. Any of these awesome parties will be great in Liverpool, whilst you’ll definitely be in luck if you managed to get a ticket to Manchester’s famous Warehouse Project. Remember, if you can’t get into any of these, it won’t actually matter – the North is known for a rowdy party regardless!

If you like the idea of reigning in the twelve bells with a good, old-fashioned ‘Hogmanay’ celebration, then a Scottish New Year soiree may well be right up your street! Glasgow has it all – street parties, clubs, bars and even dinner destinations. With just a short train ride, you can even find yourself in Edinburgh and be the envy of your friends – there’s literally so much going on to make the night special that there’s a website giving you the lowdown of what’s what! You can even read up on a few funny traditions specific to Scotland and Hogmanay before you go!

Don’t fancy heading out in this freezing weather? No worries – don’t. Your flat at Liberty Living is certainly fit for purpose to have a few friends over for a couple of drinks. Why not knock on your neighbours’ doors and invite them over for a while? It’s no fun spending the evening alone and you may even make a few new friends at the same time.

Remember, drink responsibly and try not to get yourself into too much trouble!
