Top 10 stress-busting foods to get you through your exams!

You know what? Life’s not fair. It throws you exams, so then suddenly all you want to do is eat. And so you do that, and then it throws you other curveballs like “weight gain” and “poor health”. Ugh. You can’t win.

I’m going to be honest with you. I’m all about making life as fair as possible. This exam season, I can’t take away your exams (you’ll need those for passing your degree…), but I can help you eat in a way that’ll alleviate some of the stress. And, in the interest of fairness, there are five foods that’ll be perfect for comfort eating when you’ve just had enough. And then there are five which will make you feel all proud and smug about taking care of yourself.

After all – healthy body, healthy mind and all that. Seriously, look after yourself; but treat yourself, too. It’s all about moderation!

Five stress-busting comfort foods!

1. Chocolate

Good news – whilst you shouldn’t over indulge, chocolate helps us beat stress by letting our bodies release endorphins. It also contains a chemical responsible for feelings of euphoria! Stick to dark chocolate if you’re trying to avoid fatty foods.

2. Cheesy potatoes

Whether it’s cheesy chips, jacket potatoes and cheese, or even a huge tray of gratan, there’s literally nothing more indulgent. Switch to sweet potatoes for a healthier twist.

3. Garlic bread

Not only will this help ward off vampires who want to interrupt your study (rude), it’ll also help with fighting infection, as garlic has a brilliant habit of doing that. You don’t want to feel rubbish whilst revising… and plus, it’s delicious.

4. Macaroni cheese

Seriously… cheese really helps you feel better. Plus, carbs give you energy, so this is a win-win. Vegans can sub in their own cheeses to make a really delicious dish to reward yourself with after a hard day.

5. Blueberry pancakes

A good breakfast sets you up for the entire day! Blueberries are great for helping with stress, and pancakes make you feel happy. What’s not to love?*

*I actually don’t like them, but I promise that they’re a great choice.

Five stress-busting super foods!

1. Nuts

Nuts make for the perfect snacks, and the good news is that they’re full of nutrients. If you’re really trying to be good, eating these will help keep cravings at bay.

2. Chamomile tea

Stress messes with your nervous system, and this tea will soothe it. It’ll also help you fight off infection, which is seriously the last thing you’ll need whilst revising!

3. Oily fish

Fish such as salmon is rich in Omega 3, essential in combatting stress and helping you to sleep (which is super important). Why not make the most of your Liberty Living kitchen to break up your work day?

4. Avocado

That’s right, the buzz-food of the year (if that can really be a thing), has made it to the list. It’s perfect for helping you concentrate, which is so useful around this time of year.

5. Coconut oil

Everywhere you turn on the internet, there are people swearing by the properties of coconut oil – it’s like magic! In this case, it helps aid memory loss, which is going to come in really handy on the day of your exams!

When you’re focusing on reading and revising everything in sight, nutrition often takes a back bench. However it’s literally your energy, and you can even use it as a reward. Good luck in your exams!
