Your must see movie guide this summer

Do you love going to the movies? You're in luck, because there are plenty out this summer to see you through in case of a rainy day or even better – why not experience one of the UK’s outdoor cinemas. We’ve listed our picks below and some of the films we recommend; some of them are already big hits!

Wonder Woman

Why should guys get all the heroes to look up to, and the girls don't get any? Luckily, things are changing, thanks to DC Comic's release starring the Amazonian Princess. It took 75 years for her to have her own movie, but we're glad she got one eventually. It's full of girl power, and everyone will love it!

Spider-Man: Homecoming

There have been loads of Spider-Man movies, but this latest smash brings Tom Holland’s to a hybrid superhero-high school movie, appealing to a younger, teenage demographic (and anyone who really misses their school days). It's bound to be filled with the same action we know and love - this time, he faces his nemesis, Vulture.

If you love a good chick flick, you're in luck - but Restricted is bound to appeal to a multitude of audiences. It stars some of the biggest (and most hilarious) actresses around, including Scarlett Johansson, Zoë Kravitz, Jillian Bell, Kate McKinnon and Ilana Glazer. They're on a Hen Party (or as the Americans call it, a Bachelorette Party), and as you can imagine, drama and hilarity both ensue, with things NOT going according to plan!

The House

This is the perfect comedy, and it'll make you SO GLAD that our student loans are relatively easy to get here in the UK. Amy Poehler and Will Ferrell star as two parents who totally forgot to save up to send their daughter to college, so they do the logical thing... they start an underground casino with a friend! It probably comes as no surprise to anyone that this is a recipe for disaster, but we'll let you see for yourself!

The Mummy

Last month saw the release of the latest instalment of this franchise, and honestly, the remake of this one makes me feel OLD. I remember when they remade this one the last time round! Tom Cruise has been thrown into the mix this time, getting up to all kind of terrifying tricks and escaping Egyptian curses.

Girls' Trip

If you liked Bridesmaids, you'll love this! It's a little bit naughty, and it's brought to you by the talented Black-ish showrunner Kenya Barris and 10 Things I Hate About You scribe Karen McCullah (which happens to be one of my fave movies of all time). It's your typical American college-reunion movie, but it's cheeky in all the right places! Catch Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, Regina Hall and Tiffany Haddish giving you something to laugh out loud about!

Harry Styles of One Direction came is apparently a movie star now, but that's not the only good thing about this film. Combining the thrills of, well, a thriller, with historical WW2 drama, this one will be gripping for Directioners and history buffs alike!

Emoji Movie

Want to see a movie about Emojis? Nope, I didn't really know I did, either! This will be sure to be a bit of light-hearted humour, so it's probably worth a watch (since emojis have literally taken over our lives in every other way)!

Atomic Blonde

If you like women who can handle their own, you'll be inspired by Charlize Theron in this! She plays an MI6 agent with some dangerous intel, so you'll be bound to be glued to your seat!

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

This one's got an all-star cast in ways you might not have imagined, with Cara Delevingne and Rihanna appearing alongside Dane DeHaan. You might say it's pretty futuristic, especially since it's set all the way in the 28th Century!

Outdoor Cinemas

If you want to catch a movie but prefer to spend your time outdoors enjoying those balmy summer nights you could also check out some of the cool outdoor cinemas in cities that are within reach of your Liberty Living student accommodation. We’ve listed a few here we think you’ll enjoy!

Just a stone’s throw away from your accommodation in London is St Kat’s floating film festival where you can watch some faves like Mean Girls, and Anchorman on a floating platform. All you need to do is pull up a deckchair or snuggle into one of the bean bags. Tickets are priced at £10 and there’s a fab selection of snacks and drinks on offer!

Cult screens are an open air cinema screening in Birmingham, Bristol and Coventry and offer a really cool luxurious outdoor cinema experience. You can bring your own seating or choose from deckchairs, single bean bags or double bean bags. There’s also delicious food to choose from including hot dogs, fries and nachos as well as craft beers, wines, cocktails and fresh popcorn!

A must do if you’re living in Edinburgh, Cardiff or Sheffield is Luna cinemas, one of the biggest outdoor cinema set ups in the UK popping up in beautiful surroundings. If you’ve wanted to watch a movie in a castle now’s your chance!

Which movies do you think you might check out? Don't forget your student card to make some savings! There's always the option too of getting your friends together and heading to your common room for a movie marathon!
