  1. General information

Coventry University has been providing education in some form or another since as far back as 1843. It had humble beginnings as Coventry College of Design, but by 1970 it was Lanchester Polytechnic University – ‘polytechnic’ meaning ‘skilled in many sciences and arts’. By 1987, its name had changed to Coventry Polytechnic, and in 1992 it was set up as a proper University under UK government legislation to reflect its status today.

Coventry is a University filled with pride; it remembers its Lanchester roots in the naming of several of its buildings, and it also symbolically takes on board the suffering of the city as a whole in memory of the devastation it suffered in World War Two. As such, its emblem is that of a Phoenix, a mythical creature which is alleged to have risen from the ashes of destruction.

There is an abundance of courses that you can study across such a broad range of fields at Coventry University. Whether you are an undergraduate student or progressing to postgraduate study, you will find something for you. Plus, if you are joining from another country, you will not be alone – Coventry houses plenty of International students. The University pays great attention to equality and diversity, and so you will be able to make the most of your studies here, no matter who you are.

Coventry ranks very well in league tables, coming in as high as 15th place in the UK. It’s also able to boast accolades such as ‘Modern University of the Year’ and ‘University of the Year for Student Experience’.

When you stay in our Coventry University accommodation, you’ll be close to the heart of the action and close to everything this exciting, centrally located city has to offer.
