  1. General information

The University of Glasgow is incredibly established, having had over five centuries of experience in the higher education sector. Founded all the way back in 1451, it’s the fourth oldest University in the UK. Such prestige has granted it entry into the UK’s leading ‘Russell Group’, those universities which are renowned for providing the best of the best in terms of further education. It’s currently ranked in the world’s top 60 universities and Glasgow constantly pushes itself to be even better.

With alumni including a Prime Minister, Scotland’s inaugural First Minister, seven Nobel Laureates and many more people of note, you have the tools within your reach to get to the top of your game.

Research is vital at this University; it’s led to such achievements as the world’s first ultrasound of a foetus and the pioneer of television, thanks to graduate John Logie Baird. As if all that wasn’t enough, previous lecturers have included Albert Einstein.

Today, the University of Glasgow keeps on progressing and as a result, you’ll be at the heart of an innovative institution which will do its best to set you up for the future.

The University of Glasgow has always been a progressive institution, having proudly boasted the first female graduates of medicine back in the late 1800s. These days, it welcomes all students with open arms, including those from over 120 countries worldwide to make up its 25,000 strong student body. There are also almost 7000 members of staff, including 2000 committed solely to research.

The University's reputation and standing as a world leader is built upon the work of all those who’ve studied, taught and undertaken pioneering research there – and they’re looking to welcome talented students like you to join their ranks.

Our Glasgow University accommodation is especially tailored for students to ensure every possible success.

  2. The campus

The University of Glasgow is in the midst of an exciting time and there are plenty of developments being made to make the campus even better. Glasgow’s facilities are cutting edge, and there are plenty of great spaces to achieve some incredible things, from an impressive library through to state-of-the-art laboratories.

At present, the main Gilmorehill campus is based in Hillhead in the West End of the city centre; it’s a sprawling and beautiful place with plenty of great architecture and its own vibrant culture. The buildings of historical significance compliment the more modern additions.

Glasgow boasts fantastic sporting facilities across two different sites, where you can join a number of sporting teams, exercise in the fitness suite, go for a swim and much more.

The University of Glasgow also enjoys a health rivalry with its Student Unions – it has not one, but two! The Queen Magaret Union and Glasgow University Union each have great merits and can provide fun and games as well as essential support.

If you need advice on careers, finance, medical assistance or a place to worship, it is all available on campus.

Our University of Glasgow accommodation puts you at the epicentre of everything so that you can make the most of your time studying, ensuring that you never miss out on anything exciting or integral to your student experience.

  3. Undergraduate study

If you’re just starting out on your University journey, you want to feel secure in the knowledge that you’re in the best place to succeed on your course. Thankfully, the level of teaching at the University is fantastic and so you will be well prepared to excel.

The Scottish system tends to work slightly differently from the English system, which might be useful for English students to be aware of. For example, courses tend to be around one year longer as standard than at English counterparts and you may even find yourself sharing lectures with seventeen year olds, as it’s possible to get in at a younger age.

There are a multitude of courses that you’ll be able to study, in the arts, sciences and plenty more. You’re even able to study abroad, as the University has great links and partnerships worldwide.

When you enrol at the University of Glasgow, our Glasgow University accommodation is the ideal choice when it comes to your new home. You’ll be sure to make plenty of friends and you’ve got exactly the right room specifications to succeed.

  4. Postgraduate study

Undertaking a postgraduate degree is a big step in anyone’s life, and the University of Glasgow aims to make it easier with a range of options including research led and taught programmes. There is a vast range of options when it comes to deciding what to study, and plenty of connections in industry which will be made available to you. Thanks to initiatives to develop your vocational skills in addition to your academic ones, students are typically highly successful in finding employment post-graduation.

There’s even a special club especially for postgrads right on campus. The Gilchrist Postgraduate Club has its very own café, bar and vitally, space to engage on both a social and academic level. There are even study booths and great facilities to help you with your work.

Plenty of postgraduates call our University of Glasgow accommodation home. In choosing to join them, you’ll be surrounded by like-minded people with similar hopes and dreams for their future. With included Wi-Fi and the closeness to campus of our Glasgow University accommodation, you’ll be in the best position to succeed.
