  1. A great place to study

When you arrive in Leicester, you’ll instantly notice not only its diversity, but also the seamless attitude its cosmopolitan inhabitants possess in getting along with one another. Thanks to its central location and exciting cultural richness, it has a great atmosphere which has led to lots of new developments in modern times.

Leicester is a brilliant place to spend your student days, which is why 30,000 of them do so each and every year. There are two main universities, De Montfort and the University of Leicester, and we cater to each. It’s friendly, with loads of things to do, and most importantly, it’s an inexpensive place to live in.

The local economy is booming – which leads to great prospects – and yet the city has lost none of its original charm which has been ever-present throughout the years.

  2. Food and drink

There are loads of restaurants in Leicester, from the casual right through to the finer establishments. In the relatively new Highcross Centre, you’ll find lots of yummy treats including the acclaimed Memsaab; Indian cuisine to suit all tastes, as well as Ed’s Diner, selling fun and relatively inexpensive American food.

Along the high street, you’ll find Italian chains like Zizzi and Carluccio’s, and when your parents come to visit, you should definitely give San Carlo a go. It’s a little on the pricey side, sure, but perfect for a delicious, special occasion.

  3. Sports and leisure

Leicester has a proud sporting heritage and as a result has loads of sporting teams that have made a name for themselves. Check out Leicester City Football Club or Leicester Tigers Rugby Club whilst you’re here, or even Leicestershire County Cricket Club, which is also on your doorstep.

Close to our Leicester student accommodation are a range of activities which you can get involved with yourself, especially if you like swimming, tennis, golf or basically anything else active! With lots of gyms in the area and on the campuses, you’ll feel in great shape throughout your time at University, and for a new adventure, why not give a climbing wall a go?

If you fancy heading a bit further out, Rutland Water is ideal for water sports, especially in the warmer months.

  4. Culture and music

No matter what you’re into, Leicester has something for you. The Richard 3rd Visitor Centre is a big deal right now, since his remains were found in a local car park! There are also other museums along New Walk, as well as a fascinating Space Centre on your doorstep.

For theatre fans, Leicester has a grand total of four, meaning you should keep checking the listings because there’s bound to be something up your street. These theatres are also the perfect setting for the annual comedy festival in February, showcasing the funniest talent around both established and new.

If you’re content just watching a screen, you won’t be ignored. The Cinema de Lux, bang smack in the middle of the Highcross centre, has 12 screens, an exclusive Directors Hall and even a bar-slash-restaurant. You can also head to Phoenix, an independent cinema and arts centre which also serves food.

All thanks to Leicester’s ethnic diversity, there is a Caribbean Carnival – the UK’s biggest outside London, as well as the largest Diwali celebrations outside of India. Don’t say that’s not impressive!

For music lovers, you’ll be happy knowing big name bands, huge DJs, and even classical acts regularly venture to the city. The Curve and De Montfort Hall are venues to be seen in, but there’s also The Shed, the longest running venue around.

  5. Local entertainment

Night time is when it’s all happening in Leicester, and there are loads of pubs, bars and clubs to choose from for your entertainment. Give Soar Point or The Bowling Green Pub a go – it’s not just their cute names which make them stand out!

For students, Republic and Liquid are super popular, as well as MOSH for the fans of something a little heavier. Also worth checking out is Level 1, in addition to The Factory  Leicester Student Unions' nightclub venues at De Montfort Hall.

Wednesdays and Saturdays are probably the most ‘in vogue’ nights out, but you can really head out anytime! The SU has themed nights on each of these days, with great drink offers and even celeb guests from time to time.

  6. Getting around

Leicester is blessed with a reliable and cheap bus service, which will be perfect for your time here in our Leicester student accommodation. You can buy travel cards, too, as an additional way to save. When it comes to walking, Leicester can provide many opportunities and it has absolutely miles of cycle ways to enjoy as well.

The train station lets you go all over, and London is just an hour away.

  7. Health and wellbeing

Both of the main universities in the city offer all kinds of care to their students, from advice through to medical support.

The city in general looks after its people with Leicester Royal Infirmary, with an A&E and a walk-in centre, too. There’s also The Victoria Park Health Centre, which is provided for the community, but is mainly used by those attending the University of Leicester.

If you ever need specialist care, such as financial advice or sexual health services, your University is on hand to help you.

  8. Local amenities

Gosh, we’re good to you! All of our Leicester student accommodation is well-connected, meaning you’ll never be stranded when there’s something you need. In recent years, Leicester has seen an innovative addition to its retail landscape, in the Highcross centre. With shops like Topshop, New Look, and the Apple Store, there’s something for everyone, and more and more being added all the time.

You’ll find lots of supermarkets nearby, with the giants that are Tesco being a popular one for the area, as well as Morrison’s and plenty more.  Of course, there are banks and other amenities you may need to get your errands done – so no excuses!

No student city would be complete without takeaways, and we recommend giving Middle Eastern and Indian cuisine a go, as these fast-food outlets are something of a delicacy round these parts.

  9. Further afield

If you fancy a little adventure with your Liberty Living flatmates, you’re in luck. In Leicester, you’re only an hour from London, with all the excitement the city holds. Also pretty close by is Birmingham, which is excellent for nights out and shopping, and a bit of a break from the norm. It's just under an hour away by train, so you can easily pop over for a day trip!

For something a bit quainter, head to the market town of Melton Mowbray, famous for its foodie goodness in pork pies and Stilton cheese – you’ll find an old cattle market, as well. Along the same lines of good, old fashioned fun, you’ll discover Charnwood Forest. It’s only a few miles away and has hundreds of acres of woodland walks.

If you’ve got bigger dreams, East Midlands Airport is less than about an hour away. Here you can escape to many different places far and wide, so there’s no excuse not to explore.

Whatever you are looking for, you will find it with Liberty Living in Leicester.

  7. Navigation_pink_Ratings.svg Accreditations

Liberty Living operates in accordance with the National Code of Standards for student accommodation. The Code of Standards is run by ANUK (The Accreditation Network UK), the NUS, and Unipol Student Homes, and is supported by universities across the UK.

Liberty Living joined the Code of Standards to give our students peace of mind. You can be assured that you will enjoy a high standard of living in accordance with the Code of Standards, and a prompt resolution to problems should they ever occur when you stay at any of Liberty Living’s residences.

All of Liberty Living’s residences have been accredited by ANUK and run in accordance with the National Code of Standards.

    National Code of Standards logo

Liberty Living follow a distinct set of standards for our student accommodation, called the ANUK/Unipol National Codes. The purpose of these Codes, (membership of which is voluntary), is to provide students with professional housing services.

The standards chosen for the Codes reflect a balance of common sense obligations and responsibilities between landlords and tenants. They also reflect established best practice in the sector and are based on what an average student and their parents would expect of a good quality housing supplier. The standards are supported by the voice of students themselves through the National Union of Students.

What does being a member of the codes mean?

    • Both parties can enjoy the benefits of good standards of housing management and practice.
    • Misunderstandings and disputes are reduced.
    • If problems do occur they can be promptly resolved.
    • The independent complaints procedure operated by the Codes can be used for complaint resolution.
