  1. Social scenes

Liberty Park’s central location to the city centre and to the city’s higher educational establishments means you will never miss out on Leicester’s social or academic aspects during your time at University.

The Student Union of De Montfort University is a short 10 minute walk from the residence and hosts a range of events throughout the academic year. The Student Union features three bars, including; The Factory, The Lounge and Level 1. If you want to be seen, the busiest nights are Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The closest bars to Liberty Park are Soar Point and Polar Bear, just a few minutes’ walk away, and both are open until late. For a bigger selection, head into the city centre where you will find an array of nightclubs, bars and pubs. MOSH and Republic are some of Leicester’s most popular nightclubs, especially with the student crowds.

The city centre has a range of restaurants, from national chain favourites, including; Nando’s, Café Rouge and TGI Friday’s to some independently owned treasures featuring cuisines from all over the world. Highcross Leicester is 15 minutes’ walk away and has some great places to dine out if you aren’t in the mood to cook. Ed’s Diner, Coast to Coast, ChimiChanga’s and Bill’s are just a few of the restaurants featured in the shopping centre.

Narborough Road is just over a 10 minute walk from the accommodation and has a vast range of restaurants and takeaways convenient to the residence, showcasing the vast diversity of the city. For speciality Asian cuisines visit Belgrave Road; it has a range of Asian restaurants famous for their superb twist on the food.

  2. What's around

Liberty Park is best located for students studying at De Montfort University, however it can also accommodate students of The University of Leicester. De Montfort University is located a 10 minute walk from the residence and University of Leicester is a 25 minute walk or 10 minutes via bus.

Liberty Park’s location means that you will never be far from the exciting activities Leicester has to offer. No matter what you’re into, there will be something to suit everyone’s tastes and budgets.

You’ll be vaguely familiar with Richard 3rd from all those history lessons in school. He was an old King of England, and his remains were bizarrely found in a local car park in Leicester. You can visit the site – it’s just a short walk away. There are also other museums along New Walk, as well as the fascinating Space Centre on your doorstep.

For those who enjoy the theatre, Leicester has a total of four, so you’ll be guaranteed to find something to suit your taste. Leicester also has a variety of festivals which take place including the Caribbean Carnival Festival and the annual Comedy Festival in February, showcasing a mixture of talent and comedians, old and new in the theatres.

The city has a range of museums you can explore, including; the New Walk Museum and Art Gallery, Guildhall Museum, Jewry Wall Museum, and the University of Leicester Botanic Garden (all main attractions of Leicester).

Highcross Leicester is a 10 minute walk away and offers a range of shops, restaurants and bars to indulge in. The shopping centre has three department stores, which include; House of Fraser, Debenhams, and John Lewis. More high street named shops can be found at Haymarket shopping mall – 10 minutes away. For some independent shops, Leicester is home to St Martin’s Square and Silver Street which offer individual and quaint gift shops.

Western Park is a 10 minute drive from the residence, if you like to relax between lectures. The park offers a range of activities, which include a play area, a woodland walk, a bandstand, tennis court, bowl greens, a cycle trail and it even hosts many fun day events.

  3. Getting active

If you like to keep fit, Liberty Park has its very own gym on-site exclusively for its residents, and the best part is that it's included in your rent! The gym is open 7 days a week, from 10am-10pm.

If you're looking for something different, there's a PureGym opposite the residence containing all the latest fitness equipment, and it’s open at all times, day or night.

De Montfort University has their very own leisure centre, available to students and is home to a range of facilities, which include; a swimming pool, climbing wall, gym area, dance studio, and a sauna.

For fans of professional sport, Leicester has a range of high profile teams, including; Leicester City Football Club, Leicestershire County Cricket Club and the Leicester Tigers Rugby Club which are all based in the city.

  4. Travel and transport

Liberty Park is located on Dyke’s Road, less than a 10 minute walk from De Montfort University, and a 10 minute walk to the city centre of Leicester.

Leicester train station is located in the centre, 20 minutes’ walk from Liberty Park. A number of UK destinations can be reached quickly, as Leicester is located near enough in the middle of the UK. Leicester to London takes approximately 1 hour 10 minutes, so you can whisk yourself away for a quick jaunt to the capital.

    The bus services in the city are cheap and reliable, with travel cards available. Some useful bus services for the area include;

47/84/85/88/88A – to the city centre (Bus stop located outside The Royal Infirmary)

44 – Tiger Ground – Victoria Park – UoL – St Margaret’s bus station – Nelson Mandela Park (Bus stop located outside PureGym)

For those that live outside of the UK, the nearest airports are East Midlands Airport and Birmingham Airport (less than half an hour away). Both airports offer many different flights across the world.

Taxi services in the area are cheap, so getting home in the evening can be done safely and securely.

  5. Local amenities

Liberty Park is surrounded by a large selection of services, meaning popping to the shop for your essentials can be done with ease.

For supermarkets; there is a CostCutter a few seconds away and a small Tesco opposite De Montfort University. Morrison’s is also within walking distance and is opposite the King Power Stadium (Leicester City football ground). There is also a Nando’s, Local Hero pub, bingo and a cinema.

Banks, Bureau de Change and local shopping facilities are on Narborough Road, with the city centre just 5 minutes’ walk from the University. Highcross Leicester is the main shopping centre and it has a range of restaurants and shops inside.

The University of Leicester and De Montfort University both have libraries on campus, with all the necessary resources available to complete your degree.

  6. Your wellbeing

You will be able to receive free confidential advice regarding finances, careers and general welfare when studying at any of Leicester’s universities. Liberty Park is located close to campus so you will never be too far from the help you may need.

DMU has a surgery dedicated to their students, which is based at the University – 5 minutes’ walk away.

For any emergencies, Leicester Royal Infirmary is on Walnut Street and has an A&E as well as a walk-in centre, and it’s just a 10 minute walk from the residence should you need any urgent medical assistance.

At Liberty Park, you will never be far from the help you may need. Someone from the Residence Team will be on-site 24 hours a day to guide or assist you throughout your stay with us – we want you to enjoy your time here.

Luckily, we’ve already got plenty of experience with this as we currently have around 4,500 international students staying with us, so you’re certainly not alone.

When you stay with Liberty Living your safety is the most important thing to us. We understand that you’re a long way from home and you want to feel comfortable and secure at all times. We have amazing staff on hand 24 hours a day, from the Residence Team, right through to Security who’ll keep an eye out for you overnight as well as CCTV. Contents insurance covering your possessions is included as standard in your rent, so your stuff is protected, and any parcels you have delivered will be well looked after until you can come to collect them.

Of course, we want you to have fun and make the most of your time here, too. You can always come to us with any problems, or even just for a chat. A new country can be confusing, so we’ve got loads of tips for things to do, too – just ask! Many of our staff members are multilingual, so don’t be shy if English isn’t your first language; if we can’t immediately offer support in your native tongue, we’ll point you in the direction of someone who can. We’ll do our best to help you settle in and make friends, and we can point you in the right direction for any visa, welfare or University advice you may need.

We can’t wait to meet you!

  7. Navigation_pink_Ratings.svg Accreditations

    Accreditations

Liberty Living operates in accordance with the National Code of Standards for student accommodation. The Code of Standards is run by ANUK (The Accreditation Network UK), the NUS, and Unipol Student Homes, and is supported by universities across the UK.

Liberty Living joined the Code of Standards to give our students peace of mind. You can be assured that you will enjoy a high standard of living in accordance with the Code of Standards, and a prompt resolution to problems should they ever occur when you stay at any of Liberty Living’s residences.

All of Liberty Living’s residences have been accredited by ANUK and run in accordance with the National Code of Standards.

    National Code of Standards logo

Liberty Living follow a distinct set of standards for our student accommodation, called the ANUK/Unipol National Codes. The purpose of these Codes, (membership of which is voluntary), is to provide students with professional housing services.

The standards chosen for the Codes reflect a balance of common sense obligations and responsibilities between landlords and tenants. They also reflect established best practice in the sector and are based on what an average student and their parents would expect of a good quality housing supplier. The standards are supported by the voice of students themselves through the National Union of Students.

What does being a member of the codes mean?

    • Both parties can enjoy the benefits of good standards of housing management and practice.
    • Misunderstandings and disputes are reduced.
    • If problems do occur they can be promptly resolved.
    • The independent complaints procedure operated by the Codes can be used for complaint resolution.

Important pre-arrival information

  1. Navigation_pink_Documents.svg Documents to provide

    Documents to provide

Once you've made a booking, you will need to provide us with the following documentation within 7 days (this will avoid delays on your moving in day):

    1. Signed copy of UK Guarantor Form

A UK Guarantor is required for all UK students and any non-UK students wishing to pay their rent via instalments.

A Guarantor is a third party who will be financially responsible for your rent payment in the event you can't pay. The Guarantor must be a permanent UK resident and be able to provide us with proof of address in the form of a council tax or utility bill (dated within the last 3 months). An ideal person for this responsibility is your mum, dad or your legal guardian growing up - although of course, you'll need their permission first.

    2. Passport-sized photograph of yourself

This can be a selfie, as long as we can clearly identify you.

    3. Student Loan Schedule

If you intend on using your student loan to pay your rent, we'll need to see evidence of your Student Loan Schedule from the Student Loan Company. Once we receive this, we can change your rent payment dates to coincide with the dates you receive your loan payment.

  2. Navigation_pink_Date picker.svg Arrival information

    When can you arrive?

You can move in any time after your contract start date. If the reception is closed when you arrive, the 24-hour security team will check you in and show you to your room.

International students can move in anytime from Saturday 15th September 2018.

  3. Navigation_pink_Map filters Pound.svg Paying your rent

What you need to know about paying your rent

Your accommodation fees (rent) will be charged automatically to the same credit/debit card you used on the website to pay your booking fee/deposit.

If you need to change this credit/debit card, please contact the residence asap and give them your new card details.

If you're relying on your Student Loan to pay for your rent, please keep in mind this loan is typically received a week or two after your rent is due. To avoid any nasty surprises, make sure you email us a copy of your Student Loan Schedule so we can change when your rent payment is due.

  4. Features_pink_Parking.svg Parking details

    Parking details

Some of our residences have limited parking in or around the residence but it does get busy during moving-in dates, so please plan in advance.

Parking on-site: Due to the busy move in period, there is a 30-minute parking limit to allow everyone enough time to unload their stuff. We will also provide alternate parking details on arrival.

Parking nearby: If you're unable to park on-site, you can use this handy app to find parking nearby – Parkopedia
