  1. Food and drink

Liverpool is a thriving hub of exciting places to eat and drink. Highlights include the delicious San Carlo, Gusto, Olive and Fazenda. Burger lovers will relish in trying the (now famous!) Almost Famous, whilst fried chicken fanatics can give Yard Bird a go.

Liverpool is not short of its independents, either, with The Shipping Forecast and The Quarter giving chains a run for their money.

Liverpool’s newest bid for a first Michelin Star for the city, The Art School, is surprisingly fairly priced and within a student’s budget!

If you’re looking for something different, don’t worry because you’ll find hundreds of other cafés, pubs, bars and restaurants serving a huge variety of cuisines from different counties, all just a short distance from our Liverpool student accommodation.

  2. Sports and leisure

Be prepared for the fateful question as soon as you arrive in Liverpool – “are you a red or a blue?” Liverpool is famed for its spirited rivalry between the city’s two top football clubs, Liverpool FC (the reds) and Everton FC (the blues). Whilst living in Liverpool, it would be a fun idea to visit either of the two grounds, at Anfield and Goodison Park respectively.

If you fancy just a short trip across the water to nearby Hoylake, you can also check out the home of the Open Championship, The Royal Liverpool Golf Club.

For the sports fanatics, head straight over to Wavertree Sports Park which houses the Wavertree Athletics Centre and the Liverpool Aquatics Centre.

  3. Culture and music

Without a doubt, Liverpool would not be the city that it is today without The Beatles and it continues to be an important locale for national and international touring bands, thanks to its music venues including theO2 Academy, Echo Arena, Arts Club, The Shipping Forecast andLiverpool Guild of Students. Your student accommodation in Liverpool will place you right in the heart of the action, too.

If you prefer other types of entertainment, there are several theatres in the local area that you can visit. The Liverpool Empire Theatre is renowned for having some of the best live performances outside of London's West End, and many famous plays are put on here on a regular basis.

Liverpool is also home to the country’s oldest orchestra – the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra – and the largest collection of national museums and art galleries in the UK outside London. This rich culture makes Liverpool an ideal city for students, with historical landmarks and marvels just a short distance from our student accommodation.

  4. Local entertainment

No matter what you’re into, you’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to entertainment. Liverpool has plenty of things to see and do both in the daytime and at night. Fancy a game of mini-golf, or a trip to the cinema? No problem, Liverpool has it all.

When the sun goes down, you can also try out an abundance of bars and clubs, and hopefully find your new favourites.

Concert Square is a lively student hotspot, whilst the Krazyhouse is ideal for those into something slightly alternative, but equally those who want a little bit of everything. The tequila bar next door, Ca’Va, is always popular with both students and locals alike, as is Heebie Jeebies and of course, Medication.

For live music fans take a trip down memory lane at the legendary Cavern Club.

For those looking for something a little quieter, there’s always Salt Dog Slim's, or everyone’s favourite local, Hope and Anchor (referred to locally as 'The Scream').

If you’re really trying to impress, Liverpool’s Albert Dock is the more upmarket side of town – just be prepared to flash your cash!

  5. Getting around

Situated on the North West coast, Liverpool great rail links. Liverpool Lime Street serves the national main line routes whilst Liverpool Central serves the local network, so it’s simple to get about by rail both locally and nationally.

Liverpool is also served along many National Express and Megabus routes, meaning that it’s always possible to make a quick trip home at weekends!

Buses serve the local area exceptionally well, with the timetable extending well into the evenings with discounted student fares available. Also, taxis throughout the city are renowned for being inexpensive, which means getting home to your Liverpool student accommodation from a night out can always be done safely.

International students and explorers can take advantage of Liverpool John Lennon Airport which is situated just outside the city centre, with flights to take you all over Europe.

  6. Health and wellbeing

Liberty Living’s central locations ensure that you’re never too far away from any assistance you require during your time in our student accommodation.

Campus facilities aside, The Royal Liverpool University Hospital is absolutely fantastic, accessible to all, and easily found in the city centre close to the main campuses. Here you will find an A&E department, specialist services as well as a GUM clinic.

Liverpool has some excellent walk-in centres one which can be found on David Lewis Street, and the city also offers excellent sexual health and family planning services especially geared towards under 25s, such as the Brook Advisory Service.

  7. Local amenities

In 2008, Liverpool’s city centre transformed entirely, thanks to the newly built Liverpool One shopping complex. With an impressive range of brand name stores to suit everyone, you’re bound to be covered for all of your fashion, music, beauty and other retail needs. It’s also home to a range of restaurants, bars and things to do, so no matter who you’re going with, you’ll never be bored.

When it comes to supermarkets and other essentials, the city centre is home to a huge amount of smaller Tesco, Co-operative and Sainsbury’s stores, as well as an Aldi for those who are a little more conscious about value. Just outside the city centre you’ll find a huge Asda superstore, which is easily accessible by bus or even in a shared taxi.

With easy access to The University of Liverpool Sydney Jones Library and the Harold Cohen Library for science & engineering you’ll have all the studying resources you need at your fingertips. We're also close to LJMU's Mount Pleasant campus with it's award winning John Lennon Art and Design Building and their Liverpool Science Park.

  8. Further afield

Whilst Liverpool and Manchester are seemingly in healthy competition, the neighbouring city also lies in the North West and can be visited by train in less than an hour. With an abundance of live music venues, clubs and shops, it’s the perfect place to go for a fun-filled day trip. Chester isn’t too far either – a city steeped in both history and culture, it’s an ideal place to take your parents when they come to visit.

Additionally, Liverpool isn’t too far at all from North Wales, which has some absolutely beautiful coastal spots. For example, Llandudno can be reached in around 2 hours via train, or just 1 hour 20 minutes if you're lucky enough to know somebody with a car. Why not make a weekend of it with some of your flatmates from your Liverpool student accommodation?

Whatever you are looking for, you will find it with Liberty Living in Liverpool.

Liberty Living operates in accordance with the National Code of Standards for student accommodation. The Code of Standards is run by ANUK (The Accreditation Network UK), the NUS, and Unipol Student Homes, and is supported by universities across the UK.

Liberty Living joined the Code of Standards to give our students peace of mind. You can be assured that you will enjoy a high standard of living in accordance with the Code of Standards, and a prompt resolution to problems should they ever occur when you stay at any of Liberty Living’s residences.

All of Liberty Living’s residences have been accredited by ANUK and run in accordance with the National Code of Standards.

    National Code of Standards logo

Liberty Living follow a distinct set of standards for our student accommodation, called the ANUK/Unipol National Codes. The purpose of these Codes, (membership of which is voluntary), is to provide students with professional housing services.

The standards chosen for the Codes reflect a balance of common sense obligations and responsibilities between landlords and tenants. They also reflect established best practice in the sector and are based on what an average student and their parents would expect of a good quality housing supplier. The standards are supported by the voice of students themselves through the National Union of Students.

What does being a member of the codes mean?

    • Both parties can enjoy the benefits of good standards of housing management and practice.
    • Misunderstandings and disputes are reduced.
    • If problems do occur they can be promptly resolved.
    • The independent complaints procedure operated by the Codes can be used for complaint resolution.
