  1. General information

University of the Arts London (UAL) is a specialist University which focuses on art, design, fashion, communication and the performing arts.

It’s the largest of its kind in Europe, and as such has six different colleges as part of it across London! As a collegiate University, these different colleges all have different names, and these are Camberwell College of Arts, Central Saint Martins, Chelsea College of Art and Design, the London College of Communication, the London College of Fashion and Wimbledon College of Art, all of which you may be familiar with.

There were initially seven independent arts, design, fashion and media colleges which went back many years and which were brought together to form the London Institute in 1986. In 2004, the University finally became the University of the Arts London as we know it today.

Now that the history lesson is over, you’ll be happy to know that the University does amazingly well in terms of helping its students set up their future careers. Each college has its own world-class reputation, and when you see some of the notable alumni as well as the accolades coming out of the institution, it’s easy to see why. The University shapes creative industries worldwide.

UAL has launched the careers of many creative and cultural leaders, including more than half of all Turner Prize nominees and half of the designers name British Designer of the Year. Graduates have also won BAFTA Awards, Academy Awards and many more of the highest accolades that could possibly be attained in the industry. As if that wasn’t enough, their artists and photographers have also been named in promising graduate lists and awarded several prestigious awards.

Diversity, individuality and innovation are at the heart of what UAL does, with a belief that these things feed the creativity that they aim to nurture. The University has a total of 19,000 students, and it’s actually the second most popular place for international students to head to in the UK. There are almost 9000 international students in total, from all kinds of countries including the USA, China, South Korea, Japan and Russia.

Our UAL accommodation puts you at the heart of the all the action so you can make the most of the incredible opportunities which will be afforded to you.

Facilities at each college campus are especially tailored to the course you’ll be studying, ensuring you make the most of your time with them. Everything is modern and centrally located so that you can make the most of both your studies and the inspiration that the city can offer to creative types.

Each college houses admirable facilities which include everything from letterpress machinery to studio theatres, and even various archives and collections. These works are important not only to students and graduates, but also the public as a whole. For example, Central Saint Martins has registered museum status, and there are also exhibition spaces at Chelsea College of Art and Design has two on-site exhibition spaces. There are plenty of experimental or creative galleries and other displays everywhere you turn.

The University of the Arts London also has many facilities you’d expect from a leading University. For example, there are libraries and even an SU, where you can truly gdet involved and immerse yourself in student culture. You’ll improve your social life, but also your working life as well.

Liberty Living operates in accordance with the National Code of Standards for student accommodation. The Code of Standards is run by ANUK (The Accreditation Network UK), the NUS, and Unipol Student Homes, and is supported by universities across the UK.

Liberty Living joined the Code of Standards to give our students peace of mind. You can be assured that you will enjoy a high standard of living in accordance with the Code of Standards, and a prompt resolution to problems should they ever occur when you stay at any of Liberty Living’s residences.

All of Liberty Living’s residences have been accredited by ANUK and run in accordance with the National Code of Standards.

    National Code of Standards logo

Liberty Living follow a distinct set of standards for our student accommodation, called the ANUK/Unipol National Codes. The purpose of these Codes, (membership of which is voluntary), is to provide students with professional housing services.

The standards chosen for the Codes reflect a balance of common sense obligations and responsibilities between landlords and tenants. They also reflect established best practice in the sector and are based on what an average student and their parents would expect of a good quality housing supplier. The standards are supported by the voice of students themselves through the National Union of Students.

What does being a member of the codes mean?

    • Both parties can enjoy the benefits of good standards of housing management and practice.
    • Misunderstandings and disputes are reduced.
    • If problems do occur they can be promptly resolved.
    • The independent complaints procedure operated by the Codes can be used for complaint resolution.
