London for students
When London was voted the best city for students, we weren’t surprised (and neither were the thousands of students that already study in the capital).
London is home to some of the world’s top universities and many of the best student halls in London are also located in Zone 1, these include: University College London (UCL), Queen Mary University of London (QMUoL), Imperial College London, London School of Economics, King’s College London and London Metropolitan University plus many more.
You can find food from all over the world in London, with every taste catered for. From biryanis and bagels on Brick Lane, to international street food markets in Brixton, Camden and Borough, no cuisine has been left behind.
After a while, it’ll feel like student living in London is pretty much centred around eating. Luckily, our student housing in London is too, so food is never far from reach.
Things to do
London is hardly lacking in landmarks, either. Its skyline is dotted with skyscrapers like the Shard and Gherkin, plus attractions like the London Eye and Tate Modern.
You won’t be short of entertainment near your student residence in London, whether you’re into crazy golf, cat cafés or hip-hop karaoke. If you love gigs, you’re guaranteed to have one to go to every night of the week. In fact, nightlife in London is thriving, with many of the capital’s venues, bars and clubs open until the early hours.
London’s sports scene is no different and major sporting events happen throughout the year. There are many stadiums and sports grounds, some of which offer tours.
Arts & culture
If you’re into the arts, there are plenty of theatre and film festivals in London, as well as the usual string of West End shows and musicals.
However, you don’t have to fork out to get your cultural fix – lots of London’s museums and galleries are free. You’ll also notice street art everywhere, and many student flats in London are well-placed for exploring the capital’s cultural corners.
Health & wellbeing
There’s no denying that London life is busy, but there are spots where you can find solace in the city.
Did you know that 47% of London is green space? So much that it’s been called an urban forest. Student apartments in London are never far from a park, whether you’re going for a run, walk or a swim at one of London’s legendary lidos.
You’ll also find most campuses in London have a gym and offer advice on staying healthy while at university. Check our Mental Health and University Students page for more information on looking after your mental health.
London’s network of bus, overground and underground services is sprawling. There are so many ways to get to where you want to go that even born-and-bred Londoners rely on apps like CityMapper to show them the best route.
Many bus services operate 24/7 and the night tube now runs on the Victoria, Northern and Central lines. Getting back to student rooms in London after a night out has never been so easy.
