Medway for students
Medway, in Kent, is a collection of towns steeped in history. Today, the area proudly merges its naval and military past with a bustling modern front. With both castles and culture, the area has plenty to do for its residents and visitors alike.
The University of Kent, the University of Greenwich, Canterbury Christ Church University and MidKent College are all located within Medway, so there will be abundance of fellow students throughout your time in the region. Our accommodation itself is based in the heart of the town of Gillingham, which is part of the Medway authority.
With plenty of exciting attractions and its proximity to London, your time in our student accommodation in Medway will be filled with fun, and the cosiness of the campus will make you feel right at home in no time!
Medway blends a tasty mix when it comes to delicious, mouth-watering food options. All tastes are catered to and there’s an abundance of great deals everywhere to suit even the tightest student budget.
Dotted around the city, you’ll find some brilliant traditional pubs to enjoy a spot of lunch in with your flatmates from your student accommodation in Medway / Kent. But the choice doesn’t stop there, and in fact you can choose everything from delightful little sandwich shops to something a little heartier.

Things to do
Shopping in Medway is a great option to help you pass the time, with a mix of shopping centres and all your favourite retailers dotted along the High Street.
Also located within the Liberty Quays complex is the University of Kent’s very own Cargo bar, which is open to students as well as the general public.
If it’s music you’re looking for you won’t feel left out. Quirky little venue Poco Loco allows you to sample all the best in local talent. You should also check out The Eagle Tavern and The Ship Inn, for an intimate live music experience in each.
If you’re looking to do something more relaxed, there are a few local cinemas to choose from. Just hop on a bus to the ODEON in Chatham or Cineworld in Rochester.
Arts & culture
Medway has been a significant town to England throughout the ages. With roots in maritime and naval history, the Historic Dockyard Chatham is worth a look around, and for a spot of reminiscing, the St George’s Centre hosts memorials to those who lost their lives on the ships in the world wars.
Rochester (part of the Medway authority) was an important crossing point for the Romans, which is why Rochester Castle, guarding the shores, is so impressive.
It’s not the only one though. Check out Fort Amherst or Upnor Castle as well.
If you’re also into the arts, The Brook Theatre offers an exciting plethora of entertainment for fans of all kinds of shows and plays.
Health & wellbeing
Gillingham in Medway is a pleasant area to walk around, and you should most definitely head to Gillingham Park to make the most of the great outdoor space.
If you’re into sport, then you’ll need to get acquainted with Medway Park, which is right next to our student housing in Medway. It’s an incredible multi-sport centre, which has recently undergone an £11 million transformation.
Of course, like most places around the UK, Medway also has an array of gyms both on and off campus that you can go to, for reasonable prices. There are always opportunities to keep fit if that’s what you’re looking for!
Medway is served by several train stations, making getting out and about very easy indeed. There’s also a great local bus network, with frequent and cheap services to take you anywhere you might need to go.
There are plenty of trustworthy taxis all over the city to get you from A to B, particularly after a night out, or you can use your favourite taxi app instead.
For something exciting to do right on your doorstep, it’s got to be London. With its amazing landmarks, famous skyline and a world of things to see and do, you’d be crazy for not making the most of its proximity, which is roughly 45 minutes away by train.

Liberty Living operates in accordance with the National Code of Standards for student accommodation. The Code of Standards is run by ANUK (The Accreditation Network UK), the NUS, and Unipol Student Homes, and is supported by universities across the UK.
Liberty Living joined the Code of Standards to give our students peace of mind. You can be assured that you will enjoy a high standard of living in accordance with the Code of Standards, and a prompt resolution to problems should they ever occur when you stay at any of Liberty Living’s residences.
Liberty Living follow a distinct set of standards for our student accommodation, called the ANUK/Unipol National Codes. The purpose of these Codes, (membership of which is voluntary), is to provide students with professional housing services.
The standards chosen for the Codes reflect a balance of common sense obligations and responsibilities between landlords and tenants. They also reflect established best practice in the sector and are based on what an average student and their parents would expect of a good quality housing supplier. The standards are supported by the voice of students themselves through the National Union of Students.
What does being a member of the codes mean?
- Both parties can enjoy the benefits of good standards of housing management and practice.
- Misunderstandings and disputes are reduced.
- If problems do occur they can be promptly resolved.
- The independent complaints procedure operated by the Codes can be used for complaint resolution.
