  • Student accommodation in Preston

Preston is a growing Northern city and it’s a great place to spend your student days, alongside 30,000 students in the same shoes. There’s plenty to do as well as some great courses to study, so you’re guaranteed to have a brilliant student experience – especially when you stay in our Preston student accommodation.

Select your University or College for our closest residences

  1. A great place to study

Preston is uniquely located at the heart of all the country’s action, and yet it has plenty of its own to bring to the table. In England’s North West, it’s got something exciting going on in every direction, making it an ideal place for residents and visitors alike.

As a mid-sized city of 140,000, the 30,000 students care of University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) are warmly welcomed by the locals. Preston is big enough to get a diverse mix of fun, but small enough to make you feel right at home.

With our student accommodation a hop, skip and a jump away from UCLan’s campus, what more could you want?

  2. Food and drink

Eating and drinking in Preston is thankfully inexpensive yet varied. You'll find all the favourites you’re craving, but down the high street, that’s where the city really comes into its own.

Why not get your Chinese fill with a buffet at the very aptly named Buffet @ Preston Chinese? You can chow down like it’s your last ever meal, because it’s all-you-can-eat! For something a little different, there’s Turtle Bay Caribbean Restaurant, and for traditional pub grub, give The Guild a go.

If you fancy a coffee or some cheeky little treats try Brucciani’s and admire the 1930’s décor whilst sipping Lancashire tea so strong you could stand your spoon in it.

  3. Sports and leisure

Love sport? You’ve definitely come to the right place. Both men and women’s football is catered for in the town, with one of the country's oldest women’s teams, as well as Rugby and loads more.

UCLan also boasts astounding athletics and cycling facilities in its Sports Arena, so you’ll be able to get involved with almost anything you might fancy. If it was good enough for training for the 2012 London Olympics, it’s more than good enough for you to prove your prowess as an athlete in the making!

For those who want to try something new, there’s Lancashire’s original Roller Derby team, as well as mountaineering on the other end of the spectrum to get stuck into.

  4. Culture and music

Preston is held in high esteem when it comes to architecture, which is probably why over 750 of its buildings are protected: listed for their historical importance. Of these, you need to check out the Grade 1 listed Harris Museum and Art Gallery, more than worth a visit as the focal point for the arts hub in the city. Hosting exhibitions year round, alongside the Museum of Lancashire, this is an area that’s far from culturally devoid! When you add The Queen’s Lancashire Regiment Museum and others into the mix, that’s even more apparent.

When it comes to parks, Preston isn’t lacking. Avenham Park is gorgeous, with its Green Flag Award recognising it as one of the best in the country. Other scenic points include the Guild Wheel, a 21 mile cycling greenway, with plenty of sights along the way – including the old Preston railway.

If music much more what you’re looking for, you’ll be pleased to know Preston has its very own, bustling live scene. 53 Degrees is the big venue, and it’s a great chance to catch international acts before they go on to be massive. Across the road, at Mad Ferret, everyone can get involved as they regularly host open mic nights and the smaller bands to keep an eye on.

  5. Local entertainment

Jump straight into the nightlife in Preston, and you’ll find a fun, eclectic mix. Roper Hall is the student staple – it’s playful and cheap, making it the ideal place to organise a fair few nights out with your fellow Liberty Living flatmates!

For your typical club, try Squires, or perhaps Lava & Ignite. Warehouse will go down a treat with the alternative lot, as it boasts three floors of rock and indie. Get there early, and you’ll really be able to live life loud.

For your weekly Dubstep and DnB fix, head to Exit. You won’t regret if that’s your thing, as it’s the hottest place of the moment.

  6. Getting around

The city has a brilliant bus network, with loads of local routes and services. However, you can also go elsewhere, thanks to the coach station promoting national travel. Liberty Village is only 5 minutes’ walk from the bus station, and just ten from the train station.

At the heart of the North West, Preston finds itself extraordinarily well connected to other parts of the region and beyond.

The train station will get you to Manchester and Liverpool in less than an hour, and it’s on the doorstep of many places of beauty in the good old English countryside. Scotland and London also aren’t out of reach.

  7. Health and wellbeing

We don’t exactly want you to spend your time here in Preston stuck in a hospital, but it’s handy to know there’s one out there if you ever do need some expert care.

The Royal Preston Hospital is located nearby to our Preston student accommodation, to help your peace of mind (and your parents’, too!).

UCLan also provide your pastoral care, from financial advice, right down to medical advice, career stuff and more.

  8. Local amenities

Preston’s high street has plenty of your retail favourites, so you won’t be stuck for a new wardrobe when that loan finally comes in.

At The Fishergate Shopping Centre you’ll find the usual giants, but Preston also has some smaller, more indie boutiques dotted round and about, if you fancy a bit of snooping.

Close to our Preston student accommodation you will of course find Iceland, Morrison’s, ASDA and more.

There are plenty of banks and other facilities too, and there are lots of takeaways throughout the city to make your Preston experience a little easier as well.

  9. Further afield

Preston is on the edge of so many exciting places, you’ll be spoiled for choice.

Nearby is the famous Brockholes Nature Reserve, home to cool wildlife and loads of activities for you to try. Lancaster is also only twenty minutes away, boasting literally legendary tales of castles, witches and all kinds of other wicked history. Just 40 minutes out, you’ll be in the stunning Lake District, the UK’s biggest and arguably most beautiful National Park.

If all that sounds a little quiet, you can get straight into the thick of it in an instant, with Liverpool and Manchester both right on your doorstep, with all their exciting attractions and more. Blackpool is also just around the corner, for a bit of a giggle strolling down the illuminated promenade, should that strike your fancy.

Whatever you're looking for, you will find it with Liberty Living in Preston.
