    Liberty House is located just 15 minutes on foot from the city centre, so you will never be more than short walk from everything this vibrant city has to offer.

    The residence is located within the heart of Sheffield, 10 minutes’ walk from Sheffield Hallam University. Liberty House benefits from having a wide variety of local amenities, pubs, bars and restaurants within walking distance.

    Sheffield has a well-known reputation for student nightlife; The Leadmill is located minutes from the residence and hosts live music and weekly indie club nights. As well as this, The O2 Academy is a popular music venue and is located less than 10 minutes from the residence.

    The Plug, Embrace and Corporation are a few more of Sheffield’s nightclubs notorious for cheap drinks and great music, all of which can be enjoyed when you’re staying in our student accommodation.

    The popular student areas of Division Street and West Street are each a 10 minute walk away, where you’ll find a selection of diverse bars and restaurants to choose from. Some student favourite include; The Basement, Revolución de Cuba, Mojo Bar, and Bungalows and Bears.

    If you’re looking to eat out or aren’t in the mood to cook; Sheffield city centre has a variety of restaurants, ranging in cuisines to suit all tastes and budgets. If you feel spoiled for choice, you should try Wagamama, Craft and Dough, Ask Italian, and Edo Sushi.

    If you're after a scenic lunch try The Winter Garden or Millennium Galleries which are both under 15 minutes’ walk away.

  2. What's around

    Liberty House is located on St Mary’s Road, and is within easy walking distance to Sheffield city centre, Sheffield train station and Sheffield’s main attractions.

    To catch up on the latest blockbusters, the Showroom Cinema and the Odeon cinema are less than 15 minutes away if you’re walking. Sheffield also has an impressive theatre complex, the largest of its kind outside of London's South Bank, offering both in-house productions and touring shows.

    If you want to relax between lectures The Peace Gardens, The Winter Garden and The Millennium Galleries; Sheffield’s iconic gardens are located only 15 minutes away from the residence. Sheffield has a lot of natural beauty, so there will always be somewhere to unwind on one of those elusive sunny days.

    The Moor Market is Sheffield’s brand new market, and there are literally almost 200 stalls to get you into a foodie frenzy. It’s just a 5 minute walk from Liberty House and they have loads going on throughout the year, so make sure to check it out.

    If you enjoy shopping, Meadowhall is a shopping centre located out of the city centre, 20 minutes from the residence with over 270 of your favourite retailers under one roof, from the designer names to high street and even independent brands.

    For a range of different entertainment, Sheffield City Hall hosts some famous names, displaying entertainment from comedy clubs, to contemporary dance.

    The Kelham Island Museum is a 25 minute walk away and showcases Sheffield’s industrial story from the period of early industrialisation through to modern times.

  3. Getting active

    Sheffield Hallam University is located 15 minutes’ walk from Liberty House and offers students a discounted entry to their gym facilities. They house the latest fitness equipment, making it easy to pop to the gym between lectures.

    If you’ve got a more chaotic lifestyle, there's a PureGym a 5 minute walk from the residence on Manton Street, open non-stop so you can go whenever.

    Sheffield is known for being built on hills, so if you enjoy walking you have come to the right place. One third of Sheffield is located within the Peak District National Park – a hotspot for climbers.

    If you enjoy professional sport, Bramall Lane is the home of Sheffield United FC and is located under 15 minutes’ walk from Liberty House.

    Alternatively The Sheffield Steelers; Sheffield’s ice hockey team and The Sheffield Sharks; Sheffield’s basketball team are based at the Motorpoint Arena.  

  4. Travel and transport

    Liberty House is located in a central location, a 15 minute walk from Sheffield city centre and Sheffield Hallam University.

    The main train station is Sheffield Midland train station and it’s located under 15 minutes’ walk from Liberty House, providing a quick link to other UK destinations. In under an hour you can be in any one of a selection of great cities, including Manchester, Leeds, and London. Newcastle can be reached in just over 2 hours 30 minutes.

    Stagecoach Supertram serves the city of Sheffield, covering three major routes. Through this innovative transport, you’ll gain easy access to the city centre, shopping area, the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University, sport arenas and entertainment venues.

    These are the three routes:

    • The Yellow Route (Middlewood - Meadowhall)
    • The Blue Route (Malin Bridge - Crystal Peaks Shopping Centre)
    • The Purple Route (Herdings Park - The Cathedral)

    Tickets for the Supertram are cheap can be purchased from Stagecoach either per term or per year. Purchasing a season ticket provides travel on all services provided by Stagecoach.

    Taxi services in the city are extremely cheap, so getting home safely at night isn’t going to be an issue.

  5. Local amenities

    Liberty House is located around a selection of local amenities, meaning popping to the shops to fill your cupboards can be made easy.

    A few minutes' walk away there's a Sainsbury’s Local convenience store; there is also a Waitrose supermarket 10 minutes from the residence.

    If you’re after a bigger selection, there is a large Sainsbury’s at The Moor – 10 minutes’ walk from Liberty House. Additionally, for more choice; venture into the city centre where you will find an array of supermarkets, and even Chinese and other international options.

    If you enjoy shopping, Meadowhall is a shopping centre located 20 minutes from the residence. The centre is highly accessible by bus, tram or train.

    The Devonshire Quarter also has a variety of shops to choose from and is really just a stone’s throw away from your new home.

    Fargate, an area just 15 minutes from Liberty House is the main shopping street in Sheffield and has loads of bank branches, including all the major players; HSBC, NatWest, Barclay’s and Santander.

    If you're looking for a quiet place to study and catch up on work, Sheffield City Library is 15 minutes’ walk away located on Surrey Street.  

  6. Your wellbeing

    All of the city’s universities can help you with any troubles you may be having. They’re there to give advice on careers, financial woes, or anything else you can think of.

    Sheffield has two main hospitals; The Royal Hallamshire Hospital, which is under a 30 minute walk and The Northern General Hospital, 15 minutes by taxi. If your teeth are giving you serious problems, The Charles Clifford Dental Hospital is a 15 minute taxi ride away.

    Rockingham House on Broad Lane is a walk-in centre which anyone can visit without needing an appointment. The centre is open 7 days a week, until 10pm and is under a 20 minute walk from Liberty House.

    You’ll be able to register for a doctor, too – your University will be able to point you in the right direction.

    If you require a pharmacy there is a Boot’s chemist located in Fargate; the main shopping centre in town.

    The residence is never too far from the help you may need, and our accommodation team at Liberty House are always available to give advice.

    Our dedicated Student Experience programme has been created to ensure that every single one of you has the best stay possible when you live with us. Whether it is coming along to our social events and activities to meet new people, getting involved in fundraising and volunteering for some amazing charities, or popping along to drop in sessions to seek advice on finances, wellbeing and careers, we have something for you.

    We understand that University can sometimes be an overwhelming experience, but don’t worry our team are great at giving advice on and mediating in all kinds of welfare issues that you may experience, such as homesickness, difficulty in getting on with flatmates, noise complaints, relationship problems, partying too hard and having trouble with studies.

    Also, if you need more guidance, we have great relationships with our University partners and their support departments to help and guide you.

    Coming to the UK to study from abroad? Welcome! We love catering to students from all over the world and learning a thing or two about their culture. Luckily, we’ve already got plenty of experience with this as we currently have around 4,500 international students staying with us, so you’re certainly not alone.

    When you stay with Liberty Living your safety is the most important thing to us. We understand that you’re a long way from home and you want to feel comfortable and secure at all times. We have amazing staff on hand 24 hours a day, from the Residence Team, right through to Security who’ll keep an eye out for you overnight as well as CCTV. Contents insurance covering your possessions is included as standard in your rent, so your stuff is protected, and any parcels you have delivered will be well looked after until you can come to collect them.

    Of course, we want you to have fun and make the most of your time here, too. You can always come to us with any problems,, or even just for a chat. A new country can be confusing, so we’ve got loads of tips for things to do, too – just ask! Many of our staff members are multilingual, so don’t be shy if English isn’t your first language; if we can’t immediately offer support in your native tongue, we’ll point you in the direction of someone who can. We’ll do our best to help you settle in and make friends, and we can point you in the right direction for any visa, welfare or University advice you may need.

      Once you’ve given us your details and signed up to the Tenancy Agreement, all you need to do is pay us a one off £200 booking fee (or advance rent) and set up your payment schedule – and the room is yours.

    3. Get ready to move in
