  1. Social scenes

    Liberty Point’s central location to campus and the city centre means you’ll never miss out on the exciting social scenes the city has to offer.

    There are plenty of bars, pubs and clubs close by the residence to keep you entertained in your spared time. London Road and Bedford Place are each only a 4 minute walk from Liberty Point and have a bunch of bars all grouped together including Orange Rooms, Junk, Ninety Degrees, Vodka Revolution, Buddha Lounge and Tokyo.

    Alternatively you can walk a few minutes across to Bevios Valley where you’ll find a great pub called The Rockstone where you can enjoy good food, ale & wine. Additionally, there’s Jesters, Sobar and The Hobbit all just a short walk away.

    For a late night nightclub there’s always Oceana less than 20 minutes away, which has a range of student events each week and opens ‘til the early hours of the morning.

    Being so close to the city centre there are raft of different places to eat catering for all different tastes, some popular favourites include; Turtle Bay, Mango Thai, Shrimp & Burger, Milan Italian, La Tavernetta, 7Bone Burger. There are also a large selection of national chain restaurants to enjoy in the centre, including; Nando’s, Bella Italia, Wagamama and more.

  2. What's around

    Liberty Point is located on St Mary’s Street, close to the city centre and a range of activities to keep you entertained at weekends and in your spare time.

    The residence is ideally suited for students studying at The University of Southampton and Southampton Solent University. Southampton Solent University is within easy walking distance; at just 5 minutes. There is also good transport links to The University of Southampton close by, taking just 15 minutes by car and bus.

    Southampton is one of the top 10 retail locations for shopping; with two indoor shopping centres, a retail park and boutique shopping there is something for everyone.

    WestQuay Shopping Centre is 15 minutes’ walk from Liberty Point and has over 100 stores spread over 3 shopping levels; boasting names everyone’s heard of and a variety of well-known chain restaurants to indulge in. Bedford Place is a short walk away and has an array of small independent shops and boutiques and is hustling and bustling throughout the day and night.

    The city has three cinemas dotted around showcasing all the latest movies, including the multi-screen at the Odeon at Leisure World and UGC at Ocean Village; a 6 minute drive away. The Harbour Lights Picture House is an independent cinema, at under a 10 minute drive from the residence; it’s the perfect place to catch an indie flick.

    Alternatively, if you fancy the theatre instead, the Mayflower Theatre is 10 minutes’ walk away and hosts shows which include everything from ballet or panto, to opera and comedy.

    The Titanic disaster had a huge impact on the people of Southampton with hundreds of people losing family members. The SeaCity Museum in the city centre is well worth a visit, and looks into the history of the ship and the crew members on board.

    Stressful day? There’s no better place to unwind than at Southampton Common; 20 minutes away. The common currently includes 326 acres of woodland as well as a beautiful lake and lots to do any enjoy with your flatmates. If it’s art and history you enjoy, Southampton centre is bursting with it! You can visit the Southampton City Art Gallery for contemporary pieces, or the Medieval Merchant’s House built in the 13th century – well worth a visit!

  3. Getting active

    If you like to keep fit, University of Southampton students can take advantage of the Southampton University Sport & Wellbeing membership, with gyms on Highfield campus, Wessex Lane & Glen Eyre. The closest is at Mayflower Halls in the city centre – under a 20 minute walk away. Alternatively Southampton Solent University have their own gym & sports centre across the road on St Mary’s road – just over a 5 minute walk away.

    For fans of professional sport, Southampton Football Club is based at Friends Provident St. Mary’s Stadium; less than a 20 minute walk away from the residence. Hampshire County Cricket Club is based at the AGEAS bowl; less than a 20 minute drive away.

    Water sports are very popular, and you’re right on the coast so why not give them a go? For starters, you can experience yachting and windsurfing on the Solent. You should also watch out for the annual boat show, it’s pretty impressive as it’s the biggest in Europe!

    If you’re feeling adventurous, visit the dry ski slopes at The Alpine Sports Centre– 10 minutes’ drive from Liberty Point. The centre caters for all types of winter sports and is a really fun day out for everyone.

  4. Travel and transport

    Liberty Point is located on St Mary’s Road, less than a 20 minute walk to the city centre and close to the main train and bus station of Southampton, making it easily accessible for all.

    The bus services around the city are frequent; Liberty Point has two bus stops directly outside which serve the U6 & U1N – both of which take you to the University of Southampton, the city centre and the National Oceanography Centre (NOC).

    Alternatively you can take a few minutes’ walk over to London Road where you’ll find different bus routes taking you all over the city. The main operator for bus services is UniLink.

    Southampton Central train station is located 15 minutes’ walk away from the residence. The city of London can be reached on train in 1 hour and 15 minutes, and you can be in Bournemouth city centre in less than 30 minutes.

    Southampton International Airport is located 15 minutes away by car and offers flights to UK and European destinations. Additionally Red Funnel Ferries provide a regular service from Southampton Quay to the Isle of Wight, for a fun day out.

  5. Local amenities

    Liberty Point is located by an array of local amenities, so popping to the shop for your essentials will be a stress-free task.

    There is a newsagent on the doorstep of Liberty Point, selling all day-to-day items, and some tasty treats. London Road is a 3 minute walk away with a range of shops including; a Tesco Express, Starbucks, Subway, Post Office and various high street banks.

    For a larger selection of goods, the city centre has both a large Asda and a Lidl supermarket – 15 minutes’ walk from Liberty Point.

    Both University campuses have on-site library facilities with all resources you will need throughout your time studying. The nearest alternative library to those found on each University campus would be the one found in the Civic Centre which is only a 6 or 7 minute walk away (depending on your choice of footwear).

  6. Your wellbeing

    If at any point you need help with finances, careers or your general welfare, you can get this for free and confidentially when studying at any of Southampton’s universities. Liberty Point is located close to campus so you will never be too far from the help you may need.

    Students of The University of Southampton are encouraged to register with the University Health Surgery on Highfield Campus. All other students can take advantage of Nichols Town GP Surgery which can be found over the road at The Royal South Hants Hospital.

    For any emergencies, Southampton Hospital is a 10 minute drive from the residence with an A&E department, should you need any urgent medical assistance.

    At Liberty Point we’re on hand to help, too. The Residence Team are on-site 24 hours a day to guide or assist you throughout your time with us.

    We understand that University can sometimes be an overwhelming experience, but don’t worry our team are great at giving advice on and mediating in all kinds of welfare issues that you may experience, such as homesickness, difficulty in getting on with flatmates, noise complaints, relationship problems, partying too hard and having trouble with studies.

    Coming to the UK to study from abroad? Welcome! We love catering to students from all over the world and learning a thing or two about their culture. Luckily, we’ve already got plenty of experience with this as we currently have around 4,500 international students staying with us, so you’re certainly not alone.

    When you stay with Liberty Living your safety is the most important thing to us. We understand that you’re a long way from home and you want to feel comfortable and secure at all times. We have amazing staff on hand 24 hours a day, from the Residence Team, right through to Security who’ll keep an eye out for you overnight as well as CCTV. Contents insurance covering your possessions is included as standard in your rent, so your stuff is protected, and any parcels you have delivered will be well looked after until you can come to collect them.

    Of course, we want you to have fun and make the most of your time here, too. You can always come to us with any problems,, or even just for a chat. A new country can be confusing, so we’ve got loads of tips for things to do, too – just ask! Many of our staff members are multilingual, so don’t be shy if English isn’t your first language; if we can’t immediately offer support in your native tongue, we’ll point you in the direction of someone who can. We’ll do our best to help you settle in and make friends, and we can point you in the right direction for any visa, welfare or University advice you may need.

We’d also be the last ones to split up a relationship, so you can even share a room with a partner thanks to our room shares – in residences that have double rooms or studios.

    Our self-contained Premium Shared Apartments offer a ton of privacy including your own 4ft double bed, and your own fantastic living area so that you can still socialise with one other student. Both rooms have access to a spacious fully fitted kitchen and living area, and share a bathroom with a shower, toilet and washbasin. They’re everything you need for the complete student experience! Shared Apartment rooms are approximately 8.5m², the Shared Apartment is 26m².
