  1. Social scenes

Wolverhampton has a little bit of everything to offer, and as it’s also super compact, you’ll get to know it like the back of your hand during your time here. Liberty Heights on Culwell Street is right in the heart of the action, so you’ll be able to sample a little bit of everything.

Food lover? You’ll be well looked after! You’ve got an abundance of great places to eat right on your doorstep; featuring cuisines from all kinds of places across the world. Some fab independents include Jivan’s Balti which you’ll stumble upon in just 7 minutes, or Lock Works Café Bar at the Light House.

Of course, Wolverhampton is no stranger to the chain restaurants that we Brits have grown to know and love. You’ll find a Nando’s a 9 minute walk away from Liberty Heights, or if you fancy something a little quicker, Patisserie Valerie is a great lunch spot, just 11 minutes away if you’re walking! No town is complete without a Wetherspoon’s, and yours is The Moon Under Water.

Nightlife is on form in Wolverhampton, and you’ll find firm favourites for every night of the week. No matter what you’re into in terms of bars and clubs, there really will be something for you. Students tend to love Gorgeous nightclub, which is 16 minutes’ walk away from the residence. For a more chilled experience, head to The Bohemian Bar, which is a cocktail bar very close to you, at 8 minutes’ walk.

Looking for live music? Going to gigs and concerts will be right up your street – which is ideal, because the venues are practically up yours! You can enjoy some of the best nights of your life at Wolverhampton Civic Hall, which is just 13 minutes away on foot, or Arena Theatre which is just an 11 minute walk from the residence. Expect to see everything from the next big thing before they’re discovered, right through to your favourite bands that you know and love. Wolverhampton as a tour stop is well and truly on the map!

Don’t fancy anything in particular and just feel like a wander? Wolverhampton has loads of places just waiting to be explored, so whether you’re looking for a new hangout haunt, or just a coffee shop to pass away your afternoons, you’ll love your new home!

  2. What's around

There’s loads to do in Wolverhampton, right on the doorstep of Liberty Heights.

Your new student accommodation is – as you might imagine – perfectly placed for those studying at the University of Wolverhampton and City of Wolverhampton College. You’ll only have to walk 11 minutes to get to your lectures and seminars at the University, so there are no excuses for being late to class!

Need some retail therapy after a super long day? No worries. Your best bet for high street favourites includes the Wulfrun Shopping Centre, which can be reached with a short 15 minute walk from the residence. Wolverhampton also encourages a mix of local businesses in with the big brands, so why not give the Mander Centre a try, too?

When it comes to places of interest, Wolverhampton isn’t lacking. It has Wolverhampton Art Gallery, just 9 minutes away on foot. The city’s sporting history is celebrated, too, thanks to Wolves Museum; just 17 minutes away from you at the football ground of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Prefer a night out at the theatre? Wolverhampton won’t disappoint you. It hosts a range of exciting plays, dance shows and everything in between at the Grand Theatre, which is just 8 minutes away from your new pad at Liberty Heights. The Arena Theatre is part of the University of Wolverhampton itself, and is on campus. It’s a moderately sized venue with an incredible mix of artists gracing the stage.

If you like your drama pre-recorded, you’re not alone – Wolverhampton knows that it is home to some film buffs, which is why it’s home to not one but two cinemas. Your closest one is Cineworld, showing all the big blockbusters and new releases so you won’t feel left behind. Light House Media Centre is also somewhat of a cultural hub for the region, with a bit more of an independent vibe, photo galleries, a live events programme and a 240 seat cinema. It’s only 6 minutes from your accommodation on foot, located on Fryer Street.

If you’re more of the outdoorsy type, Wolverhampton will feel like home. In the city itself, you’ve got West Park which can be reached in just 25 minutes if you’re walking – it’s even got a lake!

Finally, once a year, all eyes are on the local area! If you’re lucky enough to be sticking around for the summer and retaining that independence, you’ll be just down the road from the world-famous V Festival, which takes place at Weston Park.

  3. Getting active

Whether you’re a serious fitness fanatic, or you just want to get into shape, there are plenty of places to keep on top of your goals right here in Wolverhampton!

You’ve got loads of gyms you can go to, including The Gym, which is 21 minutes on foot from your door, PureGym which is 26 minutes away, or Gymophobics, a mere 18 minutes away (this one is ladies only). Just think of the extra calories you’ll be burning walking there! You don’t have to do the whole gym experience, if that’s not your thing. You’ve got lots of classes you can attend, too, which is an exciting way to spend an hour or two and get healthier at the same time.

Getting out and about is easy, too. You’ve got loads of places where you can enjoy a workout outdoors, when the weather is nice (or even when it’s not, if you’re super hardcore). Why not try yoga at West Park?

If you’re of the more adventurous disposition, we’d really recommend Wolf Mountain. It’s an indoor climbing centre and it’s absolutely bound to test your limits whilst offering a fun place to work out! Just hop on a bus for 20 minutes and you’ll be there.

More of a spectator? You won’t be the first, and you certainly won’t be the last – but one of your teams has to be! Whilst you’re in Wolverhampton, be sure to check out the local football team, Wolverhampton Wanderers, training at Molineux Stadium, just 15 minutes away from you if you’re walking. Or if you prefer, check out their rugby team, the Wolverhampton RUFC.

  4. Travel and transport

Liberty Heights is really close to a lot of places on foot, but of course, that’s not your only option. You can catch all kinds of public transport, both in and around your new city. Taxis are also readily available which is particularly handy after a night out, with student friendly fares, too.

Wolverhampton railway station is a convenient 5 minute walk away from the residence, and it’ll take you all over the UK. No matter where you’re from or where you’re going, the fact that Wolverhampton is really centrally located in terms of the country’s geography is going to come in really handy. London is around an hour-long journey on the train, Manchester is one hour and 13 minutes and Birmingham is literally right next to you – it takes just 23 minutes, and you’re in the heart of one of England’s biggest cities!

The bus system in the city is both reliable and easily navigated; you can go all around the city for both work and play. You’ll find buses to your University or College, so you can be dropped from door to door. If longer distance travel is what you have in mind, Wolverhampton has a coach station, so you can grab a National Express or Megabus to many different destinations. Reach it in just a 21 minutes’ walk from your new home.

Going further afield still? You’re lucky – the nearest airport is Birmingham International Airport, and you can literally find flights all over the world. Whether you’re popping home for the holidays or just hoping to catch a tan, your plane awaits you just a 45 minute drive from Liberty Heights.

  5. Local amenities

Liberty Heights will have you feeling right at home in no time. Everything that you could possibly need is right there on your doorstep, from groceries to takeaways for those days when you don’t feel like cooking.

Local supermarkets in your area of Wolverhampton include Sainsbury’s Local at the train station; it’s just 7 minutes on foot so you can literally pop to the shops for the essentials. If you want to do a bigger shop and save money whilst you’re at it, Aldi is only a 20 minute walk away.

Takeaways are available in abundance in the area, and you’ll be able to look online for the very best on the likes of Just Eat. Who doesn’t like pizza? Don’t worry, Domino’s delivers to your new home, too.

Wolverhampton has all the big shops you might be accustomed to when it comes to fashion, with a few little tricks up its sleeve of its very own. Go to either the Wulfrun Shopping Centre or the Mander Centre when you’ve got somewhere you need to be; you’ll find a fresh new outfit in no time at all!

For your convenience there’s things like banks and a Post Office right there by your front door! You’ll find most of the major banks within a 15 minute radius from the residence on foot, so you won’t have to go far (not least if you just need an ATM)! Wolverhampton Post Office is also only a 9 minute hop, skip and a jump away from you, if you want to send things the good old fashioned way!

Whilst your University will have plenty of books in its library, you can also catch any you may have missed, or simply enjoy the vibe at the Wolverhampton Central Library – just a 14 minute walk away from Liberty Heights.

  6. Your wellbeing

When you stay at Liberty Heights, we want things to go smoothly for you, which is why we at Liberty Living take your health and wellbeing so seriously – physically, mentally and emotionally.

You’ll be able to access free and confidential support from a range of sources. Your local doctor is Thornley Street Surgery, which is less than 10 minutes’ walk from the residence. If you’re too poorly, a taxi can take you there in just 4 minutes.

We really hope you’ll never need to go, but it’s always good for your peace of mind to be aware of your nearest hospital and A&E – Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust and New Cross Hospital are only 30 minutes walk away from the residence, but if it’s a real emergency, you can reach them by taxi or ambulance in 5 minutes. Your nearest sexual health clinic is the Fowler Centre, and it’s less than half an hour away on foot.

Your University or College won’t leave you high and dry, either, so don’t worry. Whether it’s financial advice you need or details of someone to talk to about mental health issues, they can do their best to signpost you in the right direction. They even help with things like helping you find a local job!

Liberty Heights allows you to experience all of the joys of living independently as a student, but that doesn’t mean that you’re alone. Our friendly Residence Teams are more than willing to help you if you’ve got any concerns, no matter how big or small.

  7. Navigation_pink_Ratings.svg Accreditations

Liberty Living operates in accordance with the National Code of Standards for student accommodation. The Code of Standards is run by ANUK (The Accreditation Network UK), the NUS, and Unipol Student Homes, and is supported by universities across the UK.

Liberty Living joined the Code of Standards to give our students peace of mind. You can be assured that you will enjoy a high standard of living in accordance with the Code of Standards, and a prompt resolution to problems should they ever occur when you stay at any of Liberty Living’s residences.

All of Liberty Living’s residences have been accredited by ANUK and run in accordance with the National Code of Standards.

    National Code of Standards logo

Liberty Living follow a distinct set of standards for our student accommodation, called the ANUK/Unipol National Codes. The purpose of these Codes, (membership of which is voluntary), is to provide students with professional housing services.

The standards chosen for the Codes reflect a balance of common sense obligations and responsibilities between landlords and tenants. They also reflect established best practice in the sector and are based on what an average student and their parents would expect of a good quality housing supplier. The standards are supported by the voice of students themselves through the National Union of Students.

What does being a member of the codes mean?

    • Both parties can enjoy the benefits of good standards of housing management and practice.
    • Misunderstandings and disputes are reduced.
    • If problems do occur they can be promptly resolved.
    • The independent complaints procedure operated by the Codes can be used for complaint resolution.
