What's great about our Student Experience programme?

  1. Navigation_pink_LibertyLiving.svg Social & community building

Our residences aren’t just a place to eat and sleep; they are your new home and we want you to feel part of our community. That’s why throughout the year we organise events and activities to build a great student community within each residence across Liberty Living.

Whether it is a tour of the city or local area, a BBQ, a chilled movie night, a pub quiz or a night out on the town there will be something for everyone!

If you have any suggestions or would like to get involved in planning social activities and events our Residence Teams would love to hear from you!

  2. Navigation_pink_LibertyLiving.svg Mental health awareness

In any one year 1 in 4 of us experience at least one mental health issue – a big proportion of us, right? We work hard to proactively create a culture of openness where everyone can feel able to talk about their mental health and are aware of the support that is available.

We have an open door policy here at Liberty Living so if you experience any difficulties throughout your stay, however small or big you feel the issue is, our staff are always here to listen and point you in the right direction if you need more help.

We actively participate in National Mental Health Awareness week where residences offer free workshops such as yoga and relaxation classes.

  3. Navigation_pink_LibertyLiving.svg Finance & budgeting

We know that money worries are on many students’ minds throughout university. Our commitment is to ensure all students know that they can talk to us and that our Residence Teams have the skills to help you manage anything from delays in student finance, budgeting for accommodation commitments, managing living costs, and accessing support funds.

The great news is you have one less thing to worry about when staying with Liberty Living – no bills! Our accommodation is all-inclusive which means no hidden costs to worry about.

So, if you have never managed your finances before or just want a bit of advice come along to our drop in sessions or simply pop into reception for a chat – we have been at this a long time now so we know all the tips and tricks!

  4. Navigation_pink_LibertyLiving.svg Health & wellbeing

Moving away from home to study can lead to changes to your routine. This can mean that healthy practices such as eating a balanced diet and regularly exercising fall by the wayside, especially during the first few weeks of term when – for some of you – increased alcohol intake and a reliance on convenience foods may become the norm!

At Liberty Living we commit to promoting a healthy lifestyle by equipping our residences with gyms and dedicated common room areas wherever possible. This creates space for you to spend time away from your flats to study, relax or just go for a change of scenery.

On top of that, we have initiatives like Free Fruit Fridays, Yoga or Pilates sessions in gyms and common rooms and ‘cook offs’ which are regularly put on by our Residence Teams!

  5. Navigation_pink_LibertyLiving.svg Green living

We can all play a part in protecting our planet – after all, we only have one. At Liberty Living, we take this responsibility pretty seriously, and we encourage our students to do the same.

People talk about the idea of reducing their carbon footprint a lot. It basically just means being aware of the impact you’re making on the environment, and trying to think of ways to reduce it. A few of our tips are turning the heating down and the lights off in your room when going out, turning off appliances and devices at the power supply  and ensuring cookers and extractor fans are fully turned off after use.

We make it really easy for you to do your bit in our residences by providing separate bins and free bags to make recycling really simple, and we’re also happy to chat to you about the best ways to walk or cycle around – we even provide bike storage in most of our student accommodation!

Throughout the year there’s the opportunity for you to donate anything you no longer need to charity, which saves a lot of waste as well as helping those in need. Up and down the country we have donated thousands of pounds of unwanted items to great charities. It’s all thanks to students like you – our donations are made possible by your efforts to reduce waste.

We’re always excited to hear input and ideas from our students about any fun ways you can think of to help us all do even more to save the world – your Residence Team will be all ears!

  6. Navigation_pink_LibertyLiving.svg Fundraising & volunteering

Volunteering and fundraising is great for both the mind and body – and the CV too of course! It is also a great way to meet new people and give something back to your community.
Throughout the year, Liberty Living fundraises for some amazing charities doing a range of fun and crazy activities. One of the great charities that we partner with is Cancer Research UK.

Through this partnership we not only take part in major campaigns such as Stand Up to Cancer and Dryathlon, but we also hold end of term clear outs where you can donate any unwanted possessions. For those of you that want to get more hands on experience, you can also volunteer in Cancer Research UK shops through Liberty Living.

These are just some of the things we get up to so keep an eye out for ways in which you can get involved at your residence!

  7. Navigation_pink_LibertyLiving.svg Career support

For most of you, University is the first stop on a journey that hopefully leads to a successful career. However, for many that career path isn't always clear and knowing how to succeed and make the best of your abilities is not always easy. Through working with our University partners we promote a Careers Week during which we host workshops covering areas such as interview skills, CV writing surgeries and the use of tools such as LinkedIn.

Liberty Living also want to give you opportunities to gain work experience with us! This could be either through volunteering, our internships or our employment opportunities that exist within Liberty Living. Furthermore, our charity partner, Cancer Research UK, similarly offers both short term and yearlong placements within their organisation to individuals looking to gain experience of the workplace.
